There are 10 basic principles of good design; CONTRAST, EMPHASIS, PROXIMITY/ALIGNMENT, BALANCE, HIERARCHY, SCALE, HARMONY/UNITY, PATTERN, REPETITION, & RHYTHM/MOVEMENT. For this week’s journal #12, google examples of BALANCE as a principle of design, and upload a picture of an example of BALANCE to your Journal #12 describing how it is used as a principle of good design. Refer to the PowerPoint slideshow I created below, for reference but ALWAYS write in your own words!!

Balance is used to balance the colors, shapes, objects, etc. in a design. The design doesn't have to be symmetrical but it does have to be balanced. Viewers should not be attracted to one point of the design. The viewer should be able to go through the entire design with out feeling like something is not balanced. If you are trying to get the viewer to focus on the whole design instead of one point i recommend balancing your art.
